CORPUS CHRISTI – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's tennis team fell 0-7 to the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders, as part of the South Texas Showdown, presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union, on Wednesday at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
 
The Islanders (12-1) gained three points in the showdown standings and now lead 28.5 points to 16.5 points.
 
Corpus Christi won doubles matches at the No. 2 and 3 spots to take the 1-0 lead after doubles and then followed by sweeping singles to clinch the win. 
 
UTRGV (3-10) took a pair of singles matches to three sets. Redshirt freshman Luka Jankovic dropped the opening set of his match against Pascal Lorieul 3-6. Jankovic answered back with a 6-4 win in the second set before falling 4-10 in the tiebreaker.
 
Redshirt sophomore Samuel de Felipe Garcia also dropped his opening set falling 3-6 to Ryuya Ata. De Felipe Garcia bounced back with a 6-2 win in the second and then went toe-to-toe in the tiebreaker before falling 11-13.
 
The Vaqueros will be back in action on March 20 when it heads to San Antonio to face UTSA at 3 p.m.

The next event in the South Texas Showdown, presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union, is a baseball game at UTRGV Baseballl Stadium on March 30 at 6 p.m.
