PHOENIX, Ariz. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's soccer fell to the Grand Canyon University Lopes 3-0 on Saturday at GCU Stadium.
The loss snaps the Vaqueros' (7-4-2, 4-4-1 WAC) three-match winning streak, concluding a 3-1-0 conference road trip.
The Lopes (3-8-0, 3-4-0 WAC) got on the board in the 15
th minute in a goal by
Raeanne Jones off of feeds by
Tyler Ferguson and
Marleen Schimmer.
Lidnsey Prokop added a goal on an assist by
Dani Babb in the 43
rd minute and the Schimmer complete the scoring with a goal in the 65
th minute.
Sophomore
Maile Lunardi (7-4-2) made six saves while freshman
Macie Blohowiak made two saves.
Jordan Ferguson (2-1-0) made four saves for the Lopes.
The Lopes outshot the Vaqueros 21-11, including 12-4 on goal.
Junior
Emily Zapta attempted a team-high three shots, including one on goal. Freshman
Anna Frida Groedem and senior
Gina Steiner each attempted two shots, including one on goal. Sophomore
Delaney Carrell attempted the Vaqueros' other shot on goal.
UTRGV returns to the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex for its final two home matches on Thursday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 12 against California Baptist. A limited number of seats are available as UTRGV Athletics is capping capacity at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex at approximately 150 fans.
