Men's Tennis Returns Home to Host Prairie View A&M Saturday

RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's tennis team returns home to host the Prairie View A&M Panthers on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.

The Vaqueros will honor three of its graduating student athletes prior to the match in Mateo Schmit, Carlo Izurieta, and Zane Kohrs

Seating at UTRGV home tennis matches is limited to 25 fans. Limiting the capacity allows for proper social distancing among fans, staff, and student-athletes.

Face masks are required to be worn properly by all fans, media and staff present inside the Orville Cox Tennis Center. The CDC defines wearing a mask correctly as covering the nose and mouth and securing it around the chin, trying to fit in snugly against the side of the face. The CDC does not recommend using masks with an exhalation valve or vent. Neck gaiters, bandanas and similar items are not acceptable alternatives to face masks. Children ages 2 and under are not required to wear masks.

Restrooms at the Orville Cox Tennis Center will be closed to the public to limit access into the Tier 1 section.

Last Time Out
UTRGV fell 0-7 to the New Mexico State Aggies to close out the first WAC Cluster of the season.

The Vaqueros (3-13, 0-2 WAC) won at the No. 1 doubles as the team of Samuel de Felipe Garcia and Carlo Izurieta  defeated Nicolas Buitrago and Jordy Visser 6-4 but the Aggies would clinch the point with a win at the No. 2 spot.

Redshirt sophomore Te Kani Williams took his match at the No. 3 singles spot to three sets against Martin Simecek. After falling 1-6 in the first set, Williams bounced back with a 6-3 win in the second to force a tiebreaker. Williams and Simecek went back and forth in the tiebreaker before Williams fell 9-11.

The Aggies won on the other singles matches to clinch the win.
