RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's tennis team fell 3-4 to the Prairie View A&M Panthers in a tight match on Saturday at the Orville Cox Tennis Center. 
 
The Vaqueros (3-14) got out to the early 1-0 lead after taking the doubles point. The team of redshirt sophomore Te Kani Williams and redshirt senior Mateo Schmit started things off with a 6-1 win over Rodrigo Yoshikata and Kevin Ugarteche at the No. 2 spot. 
 
The duo of redshirt sophomore Samuel de Felipe Garcia and redshirt junior Carlo Izurieta then clinched the point with a 6-1 win over Jorge Juarez Caballero and Juan Milham Viada at the No. 1 spot. 
 
In singles, the Panthers (4-12) got a couple of points by default to take the 2-1 lead but de Felipe Garcia picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win over Viada at the No. 2 spot to tie the match at 2-2. 
 
Williams then followed that with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Ugarteche at the No. 3 spot to give UTRGV the 3-2 lead before the Panthers tied the match with a win at the No. 4 spot. 
 
It all came down to the No. 1 spot where Izurieta went three sets against Caballero. After falling 3-6 in the first, Izurieta answered back with a tough 7-5 win in the second. The third and deciding set went back-and-forth before Izurieta fell 4-6 to close out the match.
