Men's Tennis' Salazar Competes in ITF M25 Harlingen Tournament

HARLINGEN – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros men's tennis freshman and McAllen Memorial alum Agustin Salazar was selected to compete in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) M25 Tournament in Harlingen at the HEB Tennis Center on Monday.

The tournament is part of the ITF Men's World Tennis Tour and features high-level players representing countries from all over the globe. Salazar was one of 32 players from a long list of applicants selected to compete in the Singles Qualifying Draw. He faced Rahul Dhokia, a former Baylor Bears student-athlete representing Great Britain and fell 6-0, 6-2, ending his run in the event. But the experience was a good step forward for Salazar and the Vaqueros program.

"The tournament is a great opportunity for our guys to play on a professional scale," head coach Nathan Robinson said. "Players who have been ranked as high as No. 17 in the world are at this tournament, so for our guys to be in this environment is great for our growth as players. I am very excited for Agustin's opportunity to compete in this tournament. Hopefully it's just the first for him and we can get more guys involved moving forward."
