RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros baseball team defeated the George Washington Colonials 7-1 on Saturday at UTRGV Baseball Stadium to clinch a series win.
The Colonials (0-2) got the scoring started in the top of the second against UTRGV (2-0) starter
Colten Davis. After a one-out double by
Michael Ludowig and a single by
Joe Biancone, Derek Ripp delivered a sacrifice fly scoring Ludowig for the 1-0 lead.
That would be all the runs allowed by Davis (0-1) who pitched five innings while allowing just the one run on six hits with two strike outs.
The Vaqueros got the run back in the bottom half of the third against George Washington starter

Later in the inning, Pimentel worked his way to third and came in to score on a wild pitch giving UTRGV the 2-1 lead.
The Vaqueros took advantage of some miscues from the Colonials in the bottom of the fourth. After junior
Blake Burrows and Cain reached to start the inning, a throwing error on an infield single by junior
Diego Ramirez allowed Burrows to score. One out later, graduate student
Bryan Sturges drove in Cain with an RBI groundout extending UTRGV's lead to 4-1.
In the bottom of the sixth, Ramirez reached after being hit by a pitch, moved to third on a single by Pimentel, and then came in to score on a wild pitch making it 5-1 UTRGV.
The Vaqueros added a couple of more runs in the bottom of the eighth against the Colonial bullpen. Graduate student
DeAndre' Shelton led off the inning with a double before moving to third on a passed ball. Burrows then delivered a sacrifice fly to score Shelton making it 6-1 UTRGV.
Cain capped the scoring with a solo homerun to right field to make it 7-1 UTRGV. Cain finished the game 3-fo-5 with an RBI and three runs scored.
UTRGV got four scoreless innings from its bullpen as sophomore
