STILLWATER – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's tennis team was defeated 0-7 by the Oklahoma State University (OSU) Cowboys in the finale of Saturday's doubleheader at the Greenwood Tennis Center.

Davis/Lawrance fought from a 1-5 deficit to get to 3-5, but OSU's Max Verboven and Alex Garcia held on for a 6-3 win to clinch the doubles point for the Cowboys (6-5) following a win at No. 1.
The Vaqueros won more singles games in their second match against OSU, competing well on multiple courts. Junior
Misha Kvantaliani, playing this time against Tyler Zink at No. 1, erased an early deficit and pulled away with a 6-4 win in his first set.
Oklahoma State, ranked No. 67 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) top-75 poll, clinched the match victory after singles wins at No. 5, No. 3 and No. 4.
Juniors
George Hutchings and
Chris Lawrance battled in the No. 2 and No. 6 spots, but the Cowboys took wins on both courts to open their lead to 6-0.
Kvantaliani and Zink exchanged blows throughout their back-and-forth No. 1 bout. After going down 0-2 in the second set, Kvantaliani again clawed back, forcing a tiebreaker with the set tied at 6-6. Zink took the 7-6 (7-5) win to push to a third frame.
With the match victor decided, Kvantaliani and Zink played a 10-point tiebreaker in the third set. Zink took the 10-3 win to secure the sweep for OSU.
Next up, UTRGV heads to Louisiana to play at Louisiana-Layfayette and against Nicholls on March 11-12.
