LUBBOCK – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's tennis team was defeated 4-0 by the No. 34 Texas Tech Red Raiders on Sunday at the McLeod Tennis Center.   
 
Texas Tech (13-7, 3-3 Big 12) picked up wins at No. 3 and No. 1 doubles to claim the doubles point, then secured the match victory with singles wins in the fourth, fifth and third flights. 
 
UTRGV (10-7, 2-0 Western Athletic Conference Southwest Div.) faced two players ranked in the Top 100 as singles. No. 85 Avelina Sayfetdinova clinched the match victory for Texas Tech at No. 3. 
 
Freshman Marjorie Souza gave Olivia Peet all she could handle in the No. 2 match. They went point-for-point in the first set, which Peet held on to win 6-4. The match went unfinished once Texas Tech claimed the win. 
 
Senior Katarina Sasaroga was battling well against Camryn Stepp at No. 6. After dropping the first set, Sasaroga held a 5-4 lead in the second, but the bout went unfinished.  
 
Sophomore Isabelle Bahr faced off with No. 24 Margarita Skriabina and was trailing 2-6, 1-5 when the match was called. 
 
UTRGV will play Stephen F. Austin and Tarleton in its second WAC cluster April 2-3 in Stephenville.
