STILLWATER, Okla. –The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's tennis team dropped its season-opening match 7-0 to the Oklahoma State Cowboys (OSU) in a Saturday doubleheader at the Greenwood Tennis Center. 
 
UTRGV (0-1) and OSU (1-0) will face off again at 5 p.m. Saturday.   
 
The Vaqueros were competitive in doubles to get the day started. The big sophomore duo of Sam Whitehead and Karlo Krolo picked up a 6-4 win in the No. 2 flight. With doubles tied at one match a piece after the Cowboys won in the first flight, all eyes turned to Court 3 where seniors Te Kani Williams and Chris Lawrance were battling with OSU's Allen/Roothman.
 
Trailing 5-3, Lawrance delivered a deep strike into the corner of the court that OSU couldn't get to, making it 5-4. But Allen/Roothman secured the doubles point and 1-0 lead for the Cowboys.
 
OSU clinched the match victory with singles wins in the fourth, fifth and first flights.
