RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's tennis team got back in the win column with a 7-0 sweep over the Prairie View A&M (PVAMU) Panthers on Friday at the Orville Cox Tennis Center. 
 
UTRGV (4-7) swept the doubles courts to take a 1-0 lead. The No. 2 duo of sophomores Karlo Krolo and Sam Whitehead finished first with a 6-2 win, then No. 3 duo of senior Chris Lawrance and freshman Agustin Salazar clinched the point with a 6-4 win. Junior Emilien Burnel and sophomore Borna Devald earned a 6-3 win at No. 1 to finish the sweep. 
 
Krolo and Devald earned good wins, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 and 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2, respectively, to clinch the match victory for the Vaqueros. Playing on a hot day with minimal cloud coverage, UTRGV showed its fitness to persevere and compete hard on every court while PVAMU had two players retire on the fifth and first courts. 
 
Lawrance and Whitehead completed the dominant day for the Vaqueros on the sixth and fourth courts, respectively. Lawrance won 6-2, 6-1 and Whitehead came out on top, 6-0, 6-3. 
 
UTRGV plays at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the South Texas Showdown presented by Rally Community Credit Union on Saturday at 12 p.m. at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
