RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Wednesday plans to broadcast three Saturday baseball games in Spanish on Vallevisión Channel 8 (XHAB), a Televisa television station that transmits from Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico and can also be seen in the Rio Grande Valley.
 
Fans can catch the UTRGV baseball games against Houston on March 4, Tarleton on April 1, and Grand Canyon on May 13 on Vallevisión, with each telecast starting at 6:30 p.m.
 
The announcers for the three games are Hector Zapata, a former Telemundo sports anchor in the Valley and Houston and video content specialist at UTRGV who is currently a digital media teacher at IDEA Owassa College Prep, and Luis Rubio, who broadcast select soccer games in Spanish for Vaquero Radio as a student while also broadcasting baseball, basketball, volleyball and soccer in English both for Vaquero Radio and as a fill-in on UTRGV Athletics' ESPN+ broadcasts. Rubio currently teaches social studies at Edinburg Economedes High School.
