Alex Verdugo is the Killers Golf UTRGV Student-Athlete of the Week.
Verdugo had a career outing on Saturday to help the Vaqueros earn their first series victory over Houston since 1991.
Verdugo took the mound in relief in the second inning with UTRGV trailing 5-0. He pitched a career-high 7.1 innings, keeping Houston scoreless while only allowing two hits. He racked up a career-high 10 strikeouts and didn't issue any walks as he dominated on the bump to turn the tides of the game.
Verdugo earned the win and is now 2-0 on the season with a 2.25 ERA over 12 innings pitched with 17 strikeouts.
UTRGV's next game is Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Rice. Fans can watch on CUSA TV.
