Men’s Tennis Heads to #42 UTSA For Regular Season Finale

SAN ANTONIO – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's tennis team is heading to the UTSA Tennis Center for its regular season finale against the #42 UTSA Roadrunners Tuesday at 11 a.m.

UTRGV (6-17, 1-4 Western Athletic Conference) is 2-24 against the Roadrunners (16-5, 2-1 Conference USA) in the last 20 years. The Vaqueros last defeated UTSA in 2016, taking a 4-2 win in Corpus Christi. UTSA won last season's matchup between the programs, 7-0.

The Vaqueros played at the UTSA Tennis Center during the fall Roadrunner Invitational and had good success. Junior Emilien Burnel and freshman McAllen Memorial alum Agustin Salazar both won the championships of their draws after unbeaten weekends. UTRGV went 10-0 in singles and doubles matches during the second day of the fall tournament. Burnel defeated UTSA's Garrett Skelly 7-5, 6-2 in the D Draw championship match.

This will be UTRGV's sixth match against a team currently ranked in the Top 75 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). It will be a good benchmark for the Vaqueros to see how they compare to another top team and what things they'll need to fine-tune before the WAC Tournament begins April 27 in Arlington.
