SAN ANTONIO – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's tennis team fell 6-1 in the regular season finale to the #41 UTSA Roadrunners Tuesday at the UTSA Tennis Center. 
 
UTSA (17-5, 2-1 Conference USA) secured the doubles points with two 6-1 wins in the third and second flights. UTRGV's top duo of junior Emilien Burnel and sophomore Borna Devald held a 5-4 lead over Alan Magadan/Tiago Torres, but the No. 1 match went unfinished. Magadan is one half of UTSA's No. 27 nationally ranked doubles team. 
 
The Roadrunners secured the team victory after a retirement on the third court and singles wins by Tomas Pinho and Danijal Muminovic at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively. 
 
UTRGV (6-18, 1-4 Western Athletic Conference) showed good fight. Senior Chris Lawrance competed well in the first set of his No. 6 match against Jackson Ross, pushing the frame to extra games, but Ross took the win. 
 
Burnel put the Vaqueros on the board with an impressive win at No. 1 over Torres. He held on in a tight first set, winning it 7-5, then bounced back after dropping the second 2-6 to claim the third set tiebreaker, 10:6. 
 
Devald was locked in a good battle at No. 2 against Magadan. The first set went to a seven-point tiebreaker tied at 6-all, with Magadan slimly taking the 7:5 win. The second set was also a back-and-forth affair, with Devald taking a 2-0 lead before the pair started swapping games until they once again found themselves locked at 6-all and needing a tiebreaker to decide the frame. Devald jumped out to a 4-1 lead, but Magadan came back to take a tight 7-6 (7:5), 7-6 (7:5) win in the match. 
 
Up next for UTRGV is the WAC Tournament in Arlington. The Vaqueros will be the No. 5 seed and take on No. 4 seed Seattle U (6-9, 2-3 WAC) April 27 at 3 p.m.
