BAYAMON, Puerto Rico – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's basketball team spent the day on the court on Friday in Bayamon. 
 
First, the Vaqueros spent a couple of hours helping with a Community Basketball Clinic at Pepin Cestero Bayamon as they showed participants how they practiced and ran drills with them. About 30 participants had a fun time learning from the Vaqueros.

After the clinic, the Vaqueros face the Bayamon Vaqueras and came away with a 77-44 victory. Senior Mele Kailahi led the Vaqueros with 13 points with a trio of three-pointers. Junior Kade Hackerott finished with 10 points while going 6-for-6 from the free throw line and freshman Taylor Meyners scored nine points while going 3-for-3 from three-point range.
 
The game was close through the first half as the Vaqueros led 34-24 but the Vaqueros opened up the scoring with 20 points in the third and 23 points in the fourth.
 
"The team played outstanding defenses once again and we rebounded the ball very well tonight," UTRGV Head Coach Lane Lord said. "Our offense took a little while to get going. Bayamon ran a nice 1-3-1 zone, and we missed a lot of threes in the first half but in the second half we were able to get the ball to the post and work inside out. We started hitting some big three-pointers to really open. Up the game. The Third quarter was the turning point as we won that quarter 20-6."
 
The basketball clinic and the game against the Vaqueras wrapped up the week in Puerto Rico for the Vaqueros.

The week has been beneficial for the Vaqueros in so many ways and they are truly thankful  for the trip.
