MISSOULA, Mont. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros volleyball team opens the 2023 season with a bang as they'll be taking on a pair of ranked opponents as part of a three-match opening weekend at the Ellesyn Invitational in Montana.
UTRGV opens the season Friday at 8 p.m. against the Montana Grizzlies. On Saturday at 1 p.m. the Vaqueros will take on the No. 17 BYU Cougars, a squad picked to finish second in the Big 12 preseason coaches poll. UTRGV wraps up the challenging weekend with an 11 a.m. match Sunday against the No. 5 Pitt Panthers. Pitt reached the NCAA Tournament semifinal in 2022, losing a tough 3-2 battle to Louisville.
All matches will be streamed on ESPN+ and played at Dahlberg Arena.
