SAN ANTONIO – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's and women's cross country teams will be back in San Antonio for their second meet of the season, the UIW Invitational, Saturday.
UTRGV's men's team will run an 8K race starting at 8 a.m. at the Windcrest Golf Club. The women's 6K race will follow at 8:40 a.m. The course is described as all grass, with brief crossings over concrete cart paths, and mostly flat with small rolling hills providing a slight elevation change.
Teams UTRGV will be competing against include host Incarnate Word, UTSA, Texas State, Houston Christian, Rice, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Texas A&M International, Our Lady of the Lake, Trinity and El Paso Community College.
The Vaqueros opened their 2023 season in San Antonio at the UIW Twilight. Saturday's meet will be on a different course and the races will be longer distances, giving the runners a chance to show what they've been working on between meets.
Last time out, senior
Ricardo Garcia and sophomore
Abraham Morales led the men's team and both ran personal records in the 6K race. Sophomore PSJA High alum
Faith Cruz and junior
Samantha Gonzalez paced the women's team in a 4K race.
