MILWAUKEE, Wisc. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's soccer team couldn't bounce back from three early goals as they fell 3-1 to the (RV) Marquette Golden Eagles on Friday at Valley Fields.
The Golden Eagles (5-0) got on the board in the sixth minute after Beto Soto deflected a ball that was being cleared into the goal for the 1-0 lead.
Minutes later, Soto once again found himself with the ball in the box after the Vaqueros (2-3) couldn't clear it out as he scored his second goal of the match extending the Golden Eagles lead to 2-0.
Marquette added their third goal less than a minute later after a penalty in the box gave them a penalty kick as Brooklyn Merl converted the kick giving the Golden Eagles the 3-0 lead in the first nine minutes.
The Vaqueros got on the board in the 16
th minute as graduate student
Bryant Farkarlun scored his first goal of the season that made it 3-1.
That was all the scoring in the match as the Vaqueros kept the Golden Eagles off the board denying opportunities throughout the match as UTRGV goalkeeper
Alexis Gonzalez finished with seven saves in the match.
The Golden Eagles outshot the Vaqueros 20 to 10 and 12 to 7 on goal.
The Vaqueros will be back in action on Monday when they host Xavier at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex at 6:30 p.m.
