CORPUS CHRISTI – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros volleyball team is back on the road this weekend to take on the Islanders Classic hosted by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (TAMUCC).
UTRGV (4-3) will open the tournament with a 6:30 p.m. match Saturday against the TAMUCC Islanders (5-2) to complete the South Texas Showdown presented by Rally Credit Union. The Vaqueros defeated the Islanders Tuesday in the first Showdown matchup, claiming three points toward the Showdown standings, in front of 1,704 fans in the home opener. It was the third-best crowd in program history and puts UTRGV in a good spot to try and grab the extra attendance point.
On Sunday, UTRGV will face Tulane (2-4) at 1 p.m. for the first time since 2016. Both matches will be played at the Dugan Wellness Center. Fans can watch UTRGV battle the Islanders on ESPN+.
