HAMMOND, La. – Redshirt junior Sam Whitehead and sophomore Ivo Isqueiro, of The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley's (UTRGV) men's tennis team, secured their spot in the doubles semifinals round of the Southland Conference (SLC) Individual Tennis Championships Friday at the Southeastern Tennis Complex. 
 
Whitehead and Isqueiro, the fourth-seeded men's doubles team, earned a solid 6-3, 6-2 win over Marcell Marki/Max Lindstedt from Nicholls in the opening round. They'll face the No. 1 duo of Pablo Perez Ramos/Wil Jenkins from NJIT Saturday at 10 a.m. for a chance to reach the championship match. 
 
Sophomore Santiago Serrano competed in the singles portion of the first-ever SLC Individual Tennis Championships. He fell, 6-3, 6-1, to No. 4 Matthew Ambruster of New Orleans in the opening round Friday.
