CORPUS CHRISTI – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's soccer team fell 3-1 to the Stephen F. Austin (SFA) Lumberjacks in the Southland Conference (SLC) tournament quarterfinals Tuesday at Dugan Soccer and Track & Field Stadium.
The Vaqueros (7-6-5, 3-3-4 SLC) and Lumberjacks (11-3-2, 8-2 SLC) battled through a punishing wind from the very first kick. It was SFA who came out and took control early in the match as
Erin Morgan scored in the 20
th minute giving them the 1-0 lead.
The Lumberjacks added another goal in the 25
th minute as
Brielle Buchanan scored to make it 2-0.
In the 33
rd minute,
Ella Morgan scored to give the Lumberjacks a 3-0 lead.
UTRGV showed some fight in the second half as they looked to control the pace and outshot the Lumberjacks 4-2 including a goal in the 89
th minute when sophomore
Linnea Eld scored off of a corner kick that snuck past the keeper.
Freshman
Kamila Aguilar ended the match with five saves.
The Lumberjacks outshot the Vaqueros 13-6 and 8-3 on goal.
