SAN ANTONIO – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's tennis team swept the Our Lady of the Lake (OLLU) Saints, 7-0, Sunday at the Blossom Tennis Center.
UTRGV (2-1) won all nine matches on the day, starting with a sweep through the doubles session. The top duo of senior
Lea Karren and junior
Marjorie Souza picked up a commanding 6-1 win. Head coach
West Nott switched up the No. 2 and No. 3 duos and found success. Graduate student
Isabelle Bahr and junior
Kristal Dule teamed up for the first time to get a 6-4 won on the second court. Sophomores
Valentina Urraco and
Yaiza Vazquez earned a solid 6-3 win at No. 3.
The Vaqueros kept that momentum rolling into singles play, winning in straight sets on all six courts. After dueling through the longest match of the day Saturday, Vazquez was the first off Sunday, picking up a swift 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 4.
Karren, Souza, Bahr and Dule finished their weekends 2-0 after handily winning their matches on the first, second, third and fifth courts. Dule is now 3-0 on the season, all at No. 5. Urraco earned her first singles victory of the season at No. 6, dominating the first set to the tune of a 6-0 win and closing strong in the second to secure the match, 6-4.
Up next for UTRGV is a 1 p.m. match Friday at Houston.
