PRAIRIE VIEW – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's tennis team has played its last eight matches on the road, and finally, Sunday's ninth consecutive away match will end a five-week road stretch.
The Vaqueros (4-11) will play at Prairie View A&M at 10 a.m., taking on the Panthers (1-11) at the PVAMU Tennis Courts. UTRGV is 20-1 all-time against the Panthers in a series dating back to 1986 and 9-1 in the last 10 years of head-to-head matchups.
When these teams faced off last season, UTRGV swept through all 10 matches to claim a dominant 7-0 win. The Vaqueros had a good weekend with a hard-earned win at Our Lady of the Lake and a strong effort at #18 Baylor, and after several days of beneficial practice and a chance to reset mentally, they're hopeful to continue their success against the Panthers.
"We're hoping to have a good one there. Winning 7-0 would be nice to gain some confidence," freshman
Will Roberts said. "I feel we've gone pretty well in the first half of the season. We've had a tough schedule, but overall, we've played pretty well."
