ARLINGTON – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's tennis team dropped an incredibly tight Western Athletic Conference (WAC) match to the UT Arlington (UTA) Mavericks, 5-2, Friday at the UTA Tennis Center.
The Mavericks (9-7, 3-0 WAC) took the 1-0 lead after an extremely competitive doubles session. The matches in the first and third flights both came down to tight tiebreakers that went UTA's way.
UTRGV (8-15, 0-3 WAC) continued to show its fight throughout the singles session. The Vaqueros won the first set on three courts, pushing three opening frames to extra games and two into tiebreakers. UTA extended its lead to 3-0 with wins on the sixth and third courts, but UTRGV continued to battle.

Emilien Burnel remained unbeaten in conference play in the top singles flight, capturing an impressive 7-5, 6-3 win over #88

Ivo Isqueiro moved into the No. 2 spot and looked solid, taking a hard-earned 7-6 (7:3), 6-1 win to cut the deficit to 3-2.

Paolo Bonaguro were competitive on the fourth and fifth courts but UTA took both matches to secure the victory.
The Vaqueros will close the regular season with an 11 a.m. match Sunday at Abilene Christian.
