THIBODAUX, La. – After giving up a goal and receiving a red card in the first 18 minutes of the match, The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's soccer team battled back to earn a 2-2 draw with the Nicholls Colonels on Thursday at Thibodaux Regional Sports Complex.
The Vaqueros (5-8-2, 2-4-1 SLC) had to battle back almost from the get go as the Colonels (4-7-4, 1-3-3 SLC) got a goal in the third minute from Kaylie Harris for the 1-0 lead.
The Vaqueros then had to play shorthanded after a red card was issued to graduate senior
Abbie Bailey in the 18
thminute but that didn't stop them from being aggressive. In the 31
st minute, sophomore
Isabella Burtini tied the match with her third goal of the season with junior
Linnea Eld recording the assist for her third of the season.
The Colonels answered quickly with a goal from Cameron Bonadona less than three minutes later, but UTRGV had an answer of their own as graduate student

The second half was a defensive effort as both teams took just five shots. Junior
Emilia Compian record three saves in the second half to keep the match tied as she finished with five saves.
UTRGV put three shots on goal in the second half, but goalkeeper Aislinn Wright made all three saves as she finished with six saves in the match.
