BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's tennis team saw junior Ivo Isqueiro qualify for the main draw and the program earn four singles wins in day one of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Texas Regional, hosted by Texas A&M.

Isqueiro entered the regional as the number two seed in the qualifying draw. After receiving a bye in the round of 64, Isqueiro won a 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 battle with Abilene Christian's Ethan Scribner to qualify into the main draw. Isqueiro joins redshirt senior Sam Whitehead and junior Santiago Serrano to give the Vaqueros three competitors in the main draw, their highest total since 2017-18.
 
Sophomore Michael Chan shined for the Vaqueros earning a swift 6-0, 6-3 victory over Incarnate Word's (UIW) Ian Uraga in the qualifying round of 64 before falling in a heartbreaking 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 match to eighth seed Ethan Dassett from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (TAMUCC).
 
Meanwhile, sophomore Loic Young Kriegel endured a three-set thriller in the opening round against Lamar's Guy Dagan fighting to 3-6, 6-4, 6-6 before Dagan retired. In the next round, Young battled in the opening set against fourth seed Blake Anderson, from Baylor, but ultimately lost 6-4, 6-1.
 
In the consolation draw, junior Will Roberts endured a hard-fought three-set battle to defeat Incarnate Word's Santiago Flyckt 6-2, 5-7, 1-0 (10-8).
 
UTRGV will continue their run at the ITA Texas Regional Saturday with singles as Isqueiro, Serrano, and Whitehead make their main draw debut. Isqueiro and Serrano will both start at 10 a.m. while Whitehead is scheduled to start at 11:30 a.m.
