THIBODAUX, La. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros volleyball team is chasing its eighth-straight Southland Conference (SLC) win as the Vaqueros prepare to face the Nicholls Colonels Saturday at 11 a.m. at David R. Stopher Gymnasium.
The Vaqueros (13-7, 8-1 SLC) claimed their fifth conference sweep at McNeese on Thursday. The Colonels (11-11, 1-8 SLC) have been swept six times in SLC play.
Head-to-Head History
• UTRGV is 1-4 all-time against the Nicholls in a series dating back to 1988.
• The Vaqueros beat Nicholls in their lone SLC match against each other last season, earning a swift 3-0 win in Edinburg.
• Prior to the 2024 match, all four of the contests between these programs were played at neutral sites. Saturday's match will be UTRGV's first in Thibodaux.
• The Colonels last win in the series was in Sept. 2021, a 3-2 victory in Fort Worth.

• The Vaqueros
won their seventh in a row and earned their
fifth conference sweep with a
3-0 (25-10, 25-18, 25-20) win at McNeese on Thursday. UTRGV hit a season-best .471, which is the third-best single-match hitting percentage in program history. The Vaqueros did not commit a single attack error in the first set. Sophomore outside hitter
Martina Franco led the way with 15 kills on .560 hitting while freshman outside hitter
Dimitra Nanou added 12 kills on .476 hitting. Franco and Nanou combined for five aces. Junior setter
Isabella Costantini dished out 31 assists with three kills and five digs, and junior libero
Celianiz Cabranes had 11 digs with three assists. UTRGV held McNeese to .138 hitting.
• Nicholls was swept by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Thursday. The Colonels were held to .182 hitting while the Islanders hit .463.
Harper Holden paced the Nicholls offense with 10 kills on .600 hitting.
Karina Smith tabbed 10 digs and setter
Isabella Padilla had 23 assists, three kills and two aces.
