Volleyball Kicks Off Final Week of Regular Season Thursday at Northwestern State

NATCHITOCHES, La. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros volleyball team is kicking off the final week of the regular season Thursday with a 6:30 p.m. match against the Northwestern State (NSU) Demons at Prather Coliseum.

The Vaqueros (18-7, 13-1 Southland Conference) are riding a program-best winning streak of 12 matches, which is the seventh-longest active winning streak in Div. I women's volleyball. The Demons (1-27, 0-14 SLC), on the other hand, have lost 27 in a row and have only won one set in conference action.

Head-to-Head History
• UTRGV is 6-2 all-time against the Demons in a series dating back to 1995.
• UTRGV has won four in a row against Northwestern State, including the first round match in Edinburg on Oct. 2. The Vaqueros picked up a 3-0 sweep.

Last Time Out
•  UTRGV earned its seventh Southland Conference sweep with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-23) victory over Houston Christian on Saturday, extending the winning streak to a program-best 12 matches. Sophomore outside hitter Martina Franco had her fifth double-double with 10 kills, 10 digs, three blocks and two aces. Senior right side Valentina Sarti Cipriani recorded 11 kills on .375 hitting with five blocks. Junior libero Celianiz Cabranes totaled 15 digs and two aces. Junior setter Isabella Costantini had 39 assists, six digs, two aces and two blocks.
• Northwestern State earned its first set win of the conference season in a 3-1 (25-19, 25-23, 18-25, 25-15) loss at East Texas A&M. The Demons tallied nine aces and 11 blocks, topping ETAMU in both stat categories. Makenna Tryon had a double-double with 14 kills on .382 hitting and 10 digs to go with three blocks. Samaya Wesson had 11 kills and five blocks.
