FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's cross country team moved up one spot in the regional rankings Friday as the women's and men's runners competed in the NCAA South Central Regional at Agri Park in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
The Vaqueros women took 14
th out of 24 teams, earning their best team finish at the regional meet since taking fourth in 2019. UTRGV entered the meet ranked 15
th in the USTFCCCA rankings and used four top 100 finishes to climb one spot.
Junior
N Vanee Anchike led the Vaqueros by finishing 30
th in 21:20.1, tabbing the 10
th-fastest 6K time in program history. Senior PSJA High alum
Faith Cruz was 63
rd in 22:09.7 and junior
Kailey Salazar followed in 81
st with a time of 22:24.8. Senior
Lilliana Guerrero (22:39.9) and sophomore Santa Maria alum
Mia Picazo (23:22.4) rounded out the scoring for the Vaqueros by finishing 94
th and 134
th, respectively. Sophomore Rio Grande City alum
Morgan Ramosfinished 149
th.
UTRGV's men's team was led by sophomore Mission Veterans alum
Manuel Flores, who ran a 10K personal best of 32:38.1 to finish 90
th. Senior
Abraham Morales was 109
th in 33:08.8. Freshman McAllen Memorial alum
Roehl Rodriguez ran well to take 134
th and junior McAllen Rowe alum
Kevin Cardenas followed close behind in 137
th. Freshman Weslaco East alum
Adrianno Gonzalez rounded out the scoring taking 159
th.
The men's team finished 21
st out of 23. Texas A&M won the women's team title with LSU taking second to secure the auto bids to the NCAA Championship. On the men's side, Tulane finished first and hosting Arkansas was second.
