#2 Volleyball Set for Rivalry Match with #6 Islanders in SLC Tournament Semifinals

COMMERCE, Texas – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros, the #2 seed in the Southland Conference (SLC) Championship tournament, are ready for a rivalry match against the #6 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (AMCC) Islanders Saturday at 2 p.m. at The Field House at East Texas A&M. 
 
UTRGV (21-7) is riding a 15-match winning streak and swept the regular season series against the Islanders (13-16). AMCC, the reigning SLC Tournament champion, has won three in a row coming into the semifinal match. 
 
Head-to-Head History
• UTRGV is 25-30 all-time against the Islanders. These teams play each other twice a season regularly as part of the South Texas Showdown, presented by Rally Credit Union.  
• UTRGV won both matches these teams played in the regular season. The Vaqueros earned a 3-1 win in Edinburg and a 3-2 win in Corpus in back-to-back matches.  
 
Last Time Out 
•  #2 UTRGV swept its way to the SLC Championship semifinals with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-22, 25-13) win over the #7 Houston Christian Huskies Friday. The Vaqueros totaled 10 blocks to hold HCU to .019 hitting -- the Huskies had more attack errors (10) than kills (7) in the third set. Junior middle blocker Aaliyah Snead had a career-high tying six blocks and senior right side Valentina Sarti Cipriani added five to lead the big net presence. Junior libero Celianiz Cabranes had a match-high 14 digs. Freshman outside hitter Dimitra Nanouand junior setter Isabella Costantini both notched double-doubles as Nanou led the offense with 12 kills and had 10 digs while Costantini recorded 35 assists with 10 digs. Cipriani and Snead added eight and six kills, respectively. 
• Texas A&M-Corpus Christi swept #3 Southeastern, 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-16) in the quarterfinals. The Islanders served eight aces and hit .337. Tatum Mason and Jaeda Rawls-Fletcher led the offense with 12 and 11 kills, respectively, while Virginia Ban Der Werff recorded 37 assists. Brooklyn Jaeger had 21 digs.
