#2 Volleyball Facing #1 Stephen F. Austin Sunday in SLC Tournament Championship Match

COMMERCE, Texas – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros, the #2 seed in the Southland Conference (SLC) Championship tournament, will face the #1 Stephen F. Austin (SFA) Ladyjacks Sunday at 2 p.m. at East Texas A&M's The Field House in the championship match. 
 
UTRGV (22-7) and SFA (22-7) split the regular season championship as they both went 15-1 in conference play. The Vaqueros haven't lost a match since falling at SFA in September, winning 16 in a row. The Ladyjacks have won 10 in a row coming into the title bout. 
 
Head-to-Head History
• UTRGV is 1-22 all-time against SFA. The Ladyjacks have won seven in a row over the Vaqueros, including the one match between these programs this season, 3-2, in Nacogdoches.
• UTRGV's lone win over SFA was a 3-0 non-conference match in 2016 – the same season that resulted in UTRGV's one NCAA Tournament berth. 
 
Last Time Out 
•  #2 UTRGV recorded its fifth sweep in a row to punch its ticket to the championship match with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-16) win over the #6 Islanders Saturday. The Vaqueros were led by the middle blockers as redshirt sophomore Julianna Bryant had 11 kills on .714 hitting with two blocks and junior Aaliyah Snead added nine kills on .438 hiting with a team-high tying four blocks. Senior right side Valentina Sarti Cipriani had nine kills while sophomore outside hitter Martina Franco tallied eight with a career-high tying four blocks to go with two aces. Junior libero Celianiz Cabranes had a match-high 18 digs with five assists and junior setter Isabella Costantini finished with 35 assists, seven digs, four kills and two aces. UTRGV's defense held the Islanders to .152 hitting while the Vaqueros notched their fifth match of the season with a .400 percentage or better, hitting .420 in the match.  
• #1 SFA earned a sweep over #4 UIW, 3-0 (31-29, 25-14, 25-19) in the semifinal round. Ilana De Assis and Camryn Hill led the offense with 17 and 14 kills, respectively. Both tabbed double-doubles with 13 digs each. Caroline Kahle had 14 digs and Jordan Henderson totaled seven blocks and eight kills.
