Volleyball Hosts UIW Thursday on Senior Night

RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros volleyball team hosts the UIW Cardinals Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the UTRGV Fieldhouse in a Southland Conference (SLC) match. 
 
The Vaqueros (16-7, 11-1 SLC) head into the Senior Night match riding a 10-match winning streak and are looking to tie the program's longest winning streak at 11. Head coach Todd Lowery is also chasing career win No. 600. The Cardinals (13-11, 9-3 SLC) have won three in a row but lost to UTRGV, 3-0, in San Antonio when these teams met in the first round of SLC action. 

Fans can purchase tickets at UTRGVTickets.com. Students get in free with a valid student ID but will need to claim a ticket at GoUTRGV.com/StudentTickets. A clear bag policy is in place for all UTRGV Athletics venues.

Head-to-Head History
• UTRGV is 18-8 all-time against the Cardinals in a series dating back to 1982. The Vaqueros have won eight of the last 10 matches in the series.  
• UTRGV won the first match between these teams via a 3-0 sweep in San Antonio, using a solid defensive effort to hold UIW to .183 hitting.   
• The Cardinals have not won in Edinburg since Sept. 4, 2015, when they earned a 3-0 victory. UTRGV has won five consecutive home matches against UIW.   
 
Last Time Out 
•  The Vaqueros swept the South Texas Showdown, presented by Rally Credit Union, after a comeback 3-2 (22-25, 26-24, 25-17, 23-25, 15-9) win Saturday at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to extend the winning streak to 10 matches. Junior libero Celianiz Cabranes recorded a career-high 40 digs - matching the most digs in a Div. I match this season. She's one of five players across the nation to have 40 digs in a single contest in 2025. Those 40 digs are the fourth-most in a single-match in program history. Junior setter Isabella Costantini had 58 assists, a season-high six kills, three aces, eight digs and two blocks. Four hitters reached double-digit kills: Martina Franco had a match-high 17 with a career-high 21 digs for her third double-double, Dimitra Nanou had 16 kills, and the middle blocking duo of Julianna Bryant and Aaliyah Snead had 12 kills each. Snead tabbed a career-high six blocks and Bryant added four. 
• UIW picked up a 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-21) win against East Texas A&M in San Antonio on Saturday. The Cardinals used a sharp offense and a .410 hitting percentage to overpower the Lions. Three Cardinals reached double-digit kills: Kitana Tu'ufuli (14), Kyla Malone (13) and Finley Evans (12). Setter Calissa Allison had a double-double with 44 assists and 13 digs. Libero Ashton Rogers had 14 digs.
