RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros volleyball team is set to play the home finale Saturday at 12 p.m. against the Houston Christian University Huskies at the UTRGV Fieldhouse.
The Vaqueros (17-7, 12-1 Southland Conference) are aiming to set a new program record for longest winning streak Saturday. They have currently won 11 consecutive matches, tying the record set in 2022.
Saturday's match is themed "Honoring Our Veterans" and veterans will receive free admission with a valid ID. Fans can purchase tickets at
UTRGVTickets.com. Students get in free with a valid student ID but will need to claim a ticket at
GoUTRGV.com/StudentTickets. A
clear bag policy is in place for all UTRGV Athletics venues. The match is themed as Honoring Our Veterans and veterans will receive free admission with a valid ID.
Head-to-Head History
• UTRGV is 10-15 all-time against the Huskies in a series dating back to 1988.
• UTRGV won the first match between these teams, 3-1, in Houston on Oct. 11. The Vaqueros have won three in a row against the Huskies, including sweeping the SLC series last season.
• The Huskies have not won in Edinburg since Sept. 21, 2019, when they claimed a 3-2 victory. HCU's last win over UTRGV was a 3-2 match in Houston in Sept. 2023.
Last Time Out
• The Vaqueros battled in an electric match with the UIW Cardinals and earned a
3-1 (26-24, 23-25, 25-23, 26-24) victory Thursday, putting head coach Todd Lowery at 600 career wins and tying the program's longest winning streak at 11 matches. It was the first SLC match in which the Vaqueros were outhit, as the Cardinals held UTRGV to .201 hitting while marking a .231 clip of their own, but the Vaqueros found a way. • Houston Christian fell, 3-1 (25-16, 27-25, 25-15, 27-25), to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Thursday. The Huskies were held to .191 hitting as they dropped their third match of their last five.
Allana Archie had 19 kills on .381 hitting with three aces and
Katy Barger added 18.
Madison Hess dished out 50 assists and
Bianca Byerly had 19 digs.
