NACOGDOCHES – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's basketball team fell 85-75 to the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks on Monday at the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
The Vaqueros (13-12, 5-9 SLC) had four players in double-figure scoring with redshirt junior

It was a back-and-forth first half as there were four ties and seven lead changes. The Vaqueros got back-to-back three-pointers from Thorn and Davis as they jumped out to the early 8-2 lead. The Lumberjacks answered with an 8-0 to take the lead but Fleming Jr. knocked down back-to-back buckets to give UTRGV the 12-10 lead.
Later in the first half, SFA got a three-pointer from Pangonis to take the 20-19 lead, but Davis knocked down another three-pointer to give the Vaqueros the lead right back. A layup from Fleming Jr. gave the Vaqueros their final lead of the first half with just over six minutes to play as the Lumberjacks took the 32-28 lead into the half.
UTRGV came out in the second half with some fight as they got a steal from redshirt sophomore
Marshall Destremauthat led to a driving layup by Fleming Jr. It was punch-for-punch before a three-pointer by Miller tied the game at 38-38 but the Lumberjacks would get the first of 15 free throws in the second half, compared to just four for the Vaqueros, as they regained the lead.
Fleming Jr. knocked down a three-pointer to get within one before a free throw from Raimey tied the game at 44-44. After a layup from Hayman, Davis tied the game with a layup of his own with 13:35 left to play but SFA put together a 15-6 run to take the lead for good.
The Vaqueros got three-pointers from Thorn, freshman
Jaylen Washington, and Raimey down the stretch, but the Lumberjacks were able to put the game away.
