NACOGDOCHES – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's tennis team fell to the Stephen F. Austin State University (SFA) 'Jacks 6-1 in a Southland Conference (SLC) match at the Schlief Tennis Complex Monday.
UTRGV (4-5, 2-2 SLC) dropped the doubles point as SFA (7-4, 3-0 SLC) won on courts one and two to take the 1-0 lead. On court three, the pair of sophomores
Madeleine Joffe and
Hitakamya Narwal were in a back-and-forth battle that went unfinished at 4-4.
Senior
Kristal Dule earned her fourth consecutive conference singles win on court three. Trailing 3-0 in the first set, Dule stormed back to take the first 6-4, but she dropped the second 6-2. Dule took over in the deciding set, winning the first five games and securing the 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 win.
SFA secured the team victory with simultaneous wins on courts four and five.
The Vaqueros will be back in action Thursday as they host the University of Texas Permian Basin at 10 a.m. at the Orville Cox Tennis Center as part of a doubleheader with the men's tennis team. Admission is free and the public is encouraged to attend.
