RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Monday that graduate student Angelo Cabral, of the baseball team, is the Killers Golf UTRGV Student-Athlete of the Week.
Cabral set the tone for UTRGV's series against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in game one of Saturday's doubleheader in the first game of the South Texas Showdown, presented by Rally Credit Union, since UTRGV joined the Southland Conference.
Cabral pitched a near-complete game as he struck out five in 8.2 innings of work. He threw 67 of his 96 pitches (69.79%) for strikes while allowing two earned runs.
In his last two starts, Cabral has earned two victories, struck out 14 batters in 15.2 innings of work, and only allowed two runs.
Up next, the Vaqueros will visit Rice on Wednesday before travelling to Northwestern State for the weekend.
