Steven Lancia Named to Buster Posey Award Midseason Watch List

RIO GRANDE VALLEY – Senior Steven Lancia of The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) baseball team is being honored as one of the top 56 catchers in the nation as a member of the Buster Posey Award Midseason Watch List, given annually to the best catcher in NCAA Division I.
 
Semifinalists for the Buster Posey Award will be announced by the Wichita Sports Commission on May 19. Finalists will be announced on June 4. The winner will be announced on June 26.
 
This is the second year in a row Lancia has been on the midseason watch list for the Buster Posey Award.
 
This is the fourth time UTRGV has placed a catch on the Buster Posey Award Midseason Watch List, as Conrado Diaz earned the honor in 2020 and 2021.
 
Lancia is one of three catchers in the Southland Conference (SLC) on the watch list, along with JD Gregson (Incarnate Word) and Grant Mangrum (McNeese).
 
Lancia has been a stalwart behind the plate, throwing out 16 baserunners in 30 attempts (53.33%). He is sporting a .990 fielding percentage, making just three errors and committing one passed ball in 33 starts at catcher.
 
Offensively, Lancia is hitting .320/.412/.461 with three home runs, seven doubles, one triple, 27 RBI, 28 runs scored and two stolen bases in 35 games.
