RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's tennis teams extended their win streak to seven in a row to remain undefeated in Southland Conference (SLC) play with a 4-3 win over the Lamar Cardinals on Saturday at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
UTRGV's win streak is the program's longest since 1987 when they won nine straight matches.
The Vaqueros (9-13, 3-0 SLC) grabbed the 1-0 lead taking the doubles point from the Cardinals (13-10, 0-2 SLC). The duo of sophomore

Eduardo Menezes defeated Louis Drapeau and Stefano Chappuis 6-4 on court three.

Loic Young found themselves trailing 4-1 on court one against Guy Dagan and Fabian Anthin but rallied to win five-straight games to win 6-4 clinching the doubles point for UTRGV.
In singles, UTRGV added to their lead as Serrano defeated Lukas Hamacher in straight sets 6-3, 6-3. Lamar won on courts one, four, and six to grab the 3-2 lead but Isqueiro fought back to win in three sets over Omori-Cowie. After falling 4-6 in the first, Isqueiro won the second set 6-4 and then dominated in the final set with a 6-2 win to tie the match at 3-3.
With the match tied, it all came down to court five where sophomore
Will Roberts found himself trailing a set after dropping the tie breaker to Chappuis. Roberts bounced back with a 6-3 win in the second and clinched the win for UTRGV with a 6-1 win in the third.
The Vaqueros will be back in action on Monday when they host Incarnate Word at 3 p.m. at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
