SAN ANTONIO – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros baseball team (30-15, 19-8 SLC) closes out Southland Conference play against the Incarnate Word Cardinals (17-27, 3-21 SLC) on Saturday with a doubleheader at 12 p.m. and Sunday with a single game at 1 p.m. at Sullivan Field.
UPDATE MAY 1, 5:15 p.m.: Due to the likelihood of inclement weather, Friday's scheduled baseball game is being postponed and the teams will play a doubleheader Saturday at 12 p.m. at Sullivan Field. Weather.com is forecasting strong thunderstorms and the potential for heavy rainfall in San Antonio on Friday. Saturday's weather is expected to be partly cloudy.
UTRGV can clinch at least a share of the Southland Conference Championship and the number one seed in the conference tournament with a sweep, a Lamar (16-8 SLC) sweep of Southeastern (18-6 SLC), and Stephen F. Austin (4-20 SLC) taking two out of three from McNeese (17-7 SLC).
Although this is the final weekend of Southland play for UTRGV, all other teams have Southland series next weekend as well, giving UTRGV additional opportunities to clinch the championship and/or hosting bracket play of the Southland Conference Tournament with a top-two finish.
