Four Baseball Players Earn Southland All-Academic Honors

RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) baseball team learned on Friday that senior catcher Steven Lancia, sophomore third baseman Easton Moomau, sophomore designated hitter Armani Raygoza, and pitcher Angelo Cabral have earned All-Academic Southland Conference honors, with Lancia, Moomau and Raygoza earning spots on the first team and Cabral securing a spot on the second team.
 
Armani Raygoza
 
An NCBWA Third Team All-American, All-Region First Team selection, the Southland Conference (SLC) Player of the Year, an All-SLC First Team selection, and a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy, Raygoza hit .384/.474/.706 with 17 home runs, 17 doubles, 60 RBI, 47 runs scored and two stolen bases in 53 games, including 51 starts at designated hitter and two at first base.
 
Raygoza ranks 32nd in the NCAA and first in the SLC in hits per game (1.53), 39th in the NCAA third in the SLC in hitting (.384), 45th in the NCAA and second in the SLC in slugging (.706), 60th in the NCAA and first in the SLC in total bases (149), 78th in the NCAA and second in the SLC in hits (81) and home runs per game (0.32), 86th in the NCAA and second in the SLC in home runs (17), 100th in the NCAA and third in the SLC in RBI per game (1.13), 103rd in the NCAA and fifth in the SLC in on-base percentage (.474), and 127th in the NCAA and second in the SLC in RBI (60).
 
Raygoza had one of the top individual seasons in program history, ranking third in total bases (149), fourth in home runs (17), seventh in RBI (60), eighth in hits (81), and tied for eighth in doubles (17). He also hit 23 home runs over the last two years, the third-highest career total in program history.
 
Steven Lancia
 
An All-Region Second Team selection, Buster Posey Award semifinalist, All-SLC First Team selection, member of the SLC All-Defensive Team, and Jody Ramsey Memorial Award recipient, Lancia ranks third in the NCAA in caught stealing percentage at 44.19% (19 out of 43). He also sports a .990 fielding percentage, having helped turn three doubles plays.
 
Offensively, Lancia hit .335/.436/.506 with five home runs, 11 doubles, two triples, 45 RBI, 41 runs scored and four stolen bases in 48 games, including 46 starts at catcher.
 
Lancia is leaving his mark on the program, as for his career, Lancia ranks third in putouts (1,157), eighth in RBI (114) and hits (190), and tied for 16th in home runs (16).
 
Easton Moomau
 
An All-Southland Conference First Team and All-Defensive Team honoree, Moomau hit .332/.420/.424 with three home runs, 11 doubles, 49 RBI, 52 runs scored, 32 walks compared to 28 strikeouts, five stolen bases, and a .959 fielding percentage, while starting all 54 games at third base for UTRGV in 2025.
 
Moomau stepped up during conference play, hitting .352/.441/.443 with two home runs, five doubles, 25 RBI, 30 runs scored, and four stolen bases in 30 games.
 
Angelo Cabral
 
A College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® honoree, Cabral returned from injury this season to go 4-1 with a 4.59 ERA. In 10 games (nine starts), he pitched 49.0 innings, striking out 53 while walking just 16 and allowing 49 hits for an opponents' batting average of .269.
 
Cabral hit his stride in the middle of the season, pitching his first-career complete game and shutout in a 7-inning 3-hitter to beat Texas Southern. He struck out a season-high nine without walking anyone. Cabral followed that up with a career-high 8.2 innings of 2-run ball to beat Texas A&M-Corpus Christi before striking out nine once again at Northwestern State.
