O'Keefe and Hackerott Earn SLC Women's Basketball All-Academic Awards

RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The Southland Conference (SLC) announced on Monday the 2024-25 women's basketball All-Academic Teams and Student-Athlete of the Year, and The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros junior Charlotte O'Keefe and graduate student Kade Hackerott earned recognition. 
 
O'Keefe was voted to the All-Academic First Team. The finance student made the All-Conference Second Team and All-Defensive Team after a historic junior season. She was the only SLC women's basketball player to average a double-double this season, contributing 12.5 rebounds per game (RPG) and 10.7 points per game. She led the conference in all rebounding categories and was nationally ranked in the top 10 in all four – ranking second in total rebounds (400), third in RPG (12.5), sixth in offensive RPG (4.5) and eighth in defensive RPG (8.0). 
 
O'Keefe is one of just two Div. I players to achieve three significant achievements – reaching 400 rebounds in the season, recording two 20 point/20 rebound games, and recording three or more games of 20+ rebounds. She became just the ninth player in SLC history to reach 400 rebounds in a season. O'Keefe became the UTRGV program record holder for single-season rebounds and career rebounds as she currently has 808 total rebounds through three seasons. She led the team with 44 blocks and by shooting 40% from the field. 
 
Hackerott was voted to the All-Academic Second Team. The graduate student is pursuing a Master of Business Administration. She made the Southland All-Conference Second Team after leading the Vaqueros in scoring with 13.1 points per game. She was second in the conference in free throw makes (119) and attempts (161), ranking 73rd and 64th in the nation, respectively. She led the team averaging 32.7 minutes per game and hauled in 6.5 RPG while recording a team-best 35 steals and dishing out 89 assists. 
 
Both O'Keefe and Hackerott were also named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team. O'Keefe won the UTRGV Women's Student-Athlete of the Year award.
