ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's soccer team fell 4-0 to the University of Central Florida (UCF) Knights in their season opener on Thursday at the UCF Soccer Complex.
The Vaqueros (0-1) came out with energy and aggressiveness in the early going but the Knights (3-1) got the scoring started in the 14
th minute as Malick Thiaw put one in the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.
The Knights added three more goals in the first half with goals from Claudel N'goubou in the 27
th minute, Lilian Ricol in the 32
nd minute, and Seiryu Ono in the 35
th minute.
The Vaqueros settled in defensively in the second half keeping the Knights off the board. Senior

Yoav Paltin each recorded a save in the second half as Gonzalez finished the match with three saves.
The Vaqueros were outshot 17 to 6 and 8 to 2 on goal.
The Vaqueros will be back in action on Sunday, Aug. 31 when they visit Jacksonville at 6 p.m. at Southern Oak Stadium.
