CORPUS CHRISTI – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's tennis team concluded their first fall tournament Sunday at the Jake Frederick Memorial Islander Open hosted by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
 
To open the day, junior Santiago Serrano and sophomore Loic Young Kriegel competed in the green draw final where they dropped a hard-fought set, 6-4, to the Islanders' Nicolas Niox Chateau and Josef Zapletal.
 
In singles action, Serrano earned a win when Abilene Christian's Alejandro Verdasco withdrew from the green draw south final. Junior Ivo Isqueiro also picked up a win in the blue draw west final when Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Omar Suarez withdrew from the match.
 
Up next for the Vaqueros is the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Texas Regional, hosted by Texas A&M, from Oct. 14-19.
