HOUSTON – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's soccer team played to a 3-3 draw with the Texas Southern University Tigers on Sunday at Alexander Durley Stadium to close out their non-conference slate.  
 
The Vaqueros (3-4-1) fell behind early as the Tigers (1-5-3) got a goal to take the lead in the opening minutes on a goal by Kaia Butler. 
 
UTRGV answered back minutes later as junior 
Yiselle Bernal took a corner kick and found freshman 
Sienna Church, who scored her second goal of the season to tie the match at 1-1. 
 
In the second half, the Vaqueros grabbed the lead in the 63
rd minute when graduate senior 
Sam Maudsley found a streaking graduate student 
Savannah Frisby, who had a one-on-one with the goal and scored her fourth goal of the season to make it 2-1. 
 
After the Tigers tied the match on a goal by Emeyda Cruz, the Vaqueros answered with another goal in the 80
th minute. Bernal sent a cross into the box and connected with sophomore 
Lisa Elowsson and snuck her shot past the goalie for her team-leading fifth goal of the season giving UTRGV the 3-2 lead. 
 
The Tigers got a goal late in the match after a foul was called in the box setting up a penalty kick, which Cruz converted to tie the match. 
 
UTRGV outshot Texas Southern 14 to 11 and 9 to 7 on goal.
 
The Vaqueros will be back in action on Sep. 18 when they host Northwester State at 6:30 p.m. at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex for the Southland Conference opener.
