RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros volleyball team is excited to play in front of a home crowd this week as it hosts Texas State and UTEP as part of the Southwest Showdown at the UTRGV Fieldhouse.
The Vaqueros (1-2) will face Texas State (1-1) on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the home opener before playing UTEP (3-0) on Friday at 6:30 p.m. Texas State and UTEP will also face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi as UTRGV Fieldhouse hosts a trio of neutral site matches scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and 12 p.m. on Saturday. ESPN+ or internationally on
Southland International.
Head-to-Head History
• UTRGV is 1-20 all-time against Texas State and is looking to snap a 10-match losing skid to the Bobcats. This is the first match between the teams in Edinburg since Sept. 13, 2010.
• UTRGV is 1-17 all-time against UTEP and is looking to snap an eight-match losing skid to the Miners. This is the first match these teams will play in Edinburg since Sept. 23, 2021.
Last Time Out
• UTRGV went 1-2 at the GCU Invitational. The Vaqueros dropped the season opener, 3-1, to Gonzaga before falling 3-0 to Grand Canyon. UTRGV earned its first win of the season Sunday in a 3-2 battle over LIU. Sophomore outside hitter

• Texas State went 1-1 at the UTSA Invitational. The Bobcats opened the season with a 3-1 loss to Stephen F. Austin before earning a 3-1 win over UTSA.
• UTEP went 3-0 at the Sac State Tournament. The Miners notched back-to-back 3-0 sweeps over Sacramento State and Pepperdine before defeating UC Davis, 3-1.
