RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Friday the beginning of a new spring tradition, #RallyTheValley Week, presented by McAllen International Airport, to bring Vaqueros fans together for basketball and baseball games during an action-packed stretch of home games.
 
The inaugural #RallyTheValley Week, presented by McAllen International Airport, runs from Feb. 12-17 and includes eight home games, including baseball's season-opening three-game series against Kansas Feb. 13-15, a baseball game against Texas Tech on Feb. 17, a basketball doubleheader against Stephen F. Austin on Feb. 14, and individual basketball games against Lamar, with the women playing on Feb. 12 and the men playing on Feb. 16.
 
Fans attending the games will receive #RallyTheValley Week passports that they can get stamped at each game to earn prizes. Fans attending five games can show their passport to receive a clear UTRGV tote bag. Fans attending six games can show their passport to receive a UTRGV t-shirt. Fans attending seven games can show their passport to receive a UTRGV water bottle. Fans attending all eight games can show their passport to receive a UTRGV hoodie. Fans will get their prizes at the same location and at the same time as receiving their fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth stamps.
 
Additionally, McAllen International Airport, the presenting sponsor of #RallyTheValley Week, will randomly select one lucky fan who attends all eight games to win two roundtrip tickets from McAllen to the nonstop destination of their choice.
 
Fans will have the opportunity to collect other giveaways at games from UTRGV Athletics sponsors such as Fork to Fit Kitchen, Vaquero Outfitters, BlueWave Express Car Wash, and more.
 
Fans can purchase tickets for all eight games for just $30 by getting a #RallyTheValley Week Pack at GoUTRGV.com/RallyTheValleyMiniPlan. Fans are encouraged to buy their tickets early as UTRGV Athletics is anticipating capacity crowds throughout the week.
 
Additionally, UTRGV is now making baseball-only mini plans available. For $75, fans can pick 11 games to attend via the half season plan available at GoUTRGV.com/11Pack. For $40, fans can pick six games to attend via the six-game plan available at GoUTRGV.com/6Pack. Fans who want to attend all five Sunday home games can purchase the Sunday Mini Plan for $30 at GoUTRGV.com/SundayMiniPlan.
 
Previously announced basketball promotions during #RallyTheValley Week, presented by McAllen International Airport, include:
 
•Breast Cancer Awareness Day at the basketball doubleheader on Feb. 14. The first 400 fans in attendance receive pink pom poms. Additionally, the first 300 current UTRGV students in attendance will receive free food.
 
•The Battle of the Colleges at the men's basketball game on Feb. 16, during which colleges compete for two trophies – one based on attendance by students, faculty, and staff of each college and one based on a free throw competition involving the deans. It's also Monday Madness, during which fans will receive glowsticks, courtesy of Vaquero Outfitters. There will also be a DJ and party lights. Additionally, the first 300 current UTRGV students in attendance will receive free food.
 
The baseball promotional schedule is expected to be made available in the coming days.
 
#RallyTheValley Week, presented by McAllen International Airport, takes the place of homecoming week, which was previously held in conjunction with basketball and baseball home games in February but is now celebrated in the fall in conjunction with a home football game.
