After a layup from Brankovic, the Islanders went on a 6-0 run to take the 36-32 lead.

The Vaqueros were held without a field goal for over six minutes before a three-pointer from Ricks made it 44-40 with just over 11 minutes to play. Brankovic kept UTRGV in the game with three-straight baskets that got them within 52-48 but the Islanders had an answer for each one.

Washington knocked down a floater and then got a put back bucket to get UTRGV within 60-59 with 1:19 left in the game. With just 12 seconds left, Washington came up big again with a steal and had a good look at the game-winner but went off the front end.

Washington got the Vaqueros going early scoring the first four points and then redshirt junior Marshal Destremau knocked down a three-pointer to give UTRGV the 7-5 lead.
