RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's soccer took a 1-0 lead over the HCU Huskies Thursday before the match was suspended due to inclement weather in the 22^nd minute at UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex.

The Vaqueros took the lead with the right foot of junior Elias Taj in the 10^th minute of the match. Taj now leads the team in points with eight and is tied for the team lead in goals scored this season with three.

Freshman Victor van der Aa sent a long ball to Taj from the right side of the UTRGV box. Taj shot it past the charging Heeps and into the bottom right corner of the net to put the Vaqueros ahead 1-0.

The Vaqueros kept the pressure on prior to the suspension, attempting seven shots and putting three on goal. Meanwhile, the Vaqueros defense held the Huskies without a shot attempt through the first 21 minutes.

At 7:07 p.m., the match entered a lightning delay, and the teams did not return to the field. The match was suspended in the 22nd minute and will resume at a later date.
