LAKE CHARLES, La. – Seniors Paolo Bonaguro and Santiago Serrano will compete for conference titles as The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's tennis program opens play at the Southland Conference (SLC) Fall Championships Friday at McNeese's Nancy Hank Tennis Center.
 
The Vaqueros are sending Serrano as the singles representative in the SLC Fall Championships for the third-consecutive season. Serrano, once again, enters the tournament as the No. 4 seed and will take on Felipe Spagnuola from Nicholls (NICH) on Friday at 9 a.m.
 
Earlier this fall, Serrano advanced to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Texas Regional main draw with wins over Abilene Christian's Alejandro Verdasco and Lamar's Maxwell Lindstedt.
 
Then, at the Ralph O'Connor Invitational, Serrano earned two separate singles wins over SLC opponents, knocking off Andres Delgadillo from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (TAMUCC) and Santiago Flyckt from UIW.
 
Meanwhile, Serrano will partner up with Bonaguro in the doubles bracket on Saturday. The duo enters the tournament as the No. 3 seed, advancing them straight into the semifinals against the No. 2-seeded duo of Mikel Garmendia and Jami Savolainen from TAMUCC.
 
Bonaguro and Serrano have yet to play together this fall, but both have earned wins over Texas mid-major duos this season. Serrano, partnered with fifth year Ivo Isqueiro, defeated the Lamar duo of Leon Nickel and Lindstedt.
 
Meanwhile, Bonaguro, paired with junior Loic Young Kriegel, has earned wins over Timeo Brentin and Enzo Tafarelo Vargas from UTSA and the team of Alex Flores and Alexandre Chauvel Gobin from UIW.
