Swimming & Diving Breaks Three Program Records on First Day Against Bowling Green

RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros swimming & diving program earned three event wins and broke three program records in the first day of its two-day dual meet against the Bowling Green University (BGSU) Falcons on Friday at the City of Pharr-PSJA Natatorium.

The Vaqueros trail the Falcons 114-49 after the first day of competition.

Junior Manou Meulebeek led the Vaqueros in the 3-meter diving event, earning first place with a score of 321.90, breaking her own record of 319.5. Freshman Kiyana Perez finished fourth with 267.90 points, while freshman Madelaine Bailey placed sixth with 210.68.

Freshman Louise Deroide earned UTRGV's second individual victory of the night, finishing first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:06.32, breaking her previous record of 1:07.45. This marks the third time Deroide beats her own record this season. Sophomore Jaydy Jay finished fifth with a time of 1:10.80.

The Vaqueros also claimed first place in the team diving event as Perez, Meulebeek and Bailey combined for a score of 264.30 to earn 11 team points. Bowling Green's team of Victoria Miller, Natalia Mayorga and Ava Roffel finished second with 260.85 points, earning four team points.

The Vaqueros' 200-yard medley relay team of sophomore Sasapin Sarawas, Deroide, freshman Eirini Natsiou and sophomore Dia Henderson set a new program record with a time of 1:47.65, finishing third.

Junior Annaleagh Stahl led the Vaqueros in the 400-yard individual medley, finishing third with a time of 4:42.22. Senior Olivia Votava followed in fifth with a time of 4:58.83.

Natsiou placed fourth in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 58.83, while Henderson finished seventh with a time of 1:01.32.

Sarawas led the Vaqueros in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing fourth with a time of 2:02.86. Sophomore Sarah Bull followed in fifth with a time of 2:05.13.

In the 1,650-yard freestyle, freshman Ellie Bailey finished fourth with a time of 18:35.12, followed by sophomore Ellinor Plant in fifth with a time of 19:23.12 and senior Chloe Siegrist in sixth with a time of 19:37.06.

UTRGV closed the swimming portion of the meet with a third-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay as Henderson, Natsiou, junior Ida Rudelius and Deroide combined for a time of 3:37.84.

The Vaqueros return to action Saturday for senior day and the final day of competition against BGSU at 9:30 a.m.
